Cost per click is also known as pay per click. It is a form of digital advertising. It is the actual price you pay to the publisher every time an online user clicks on your ad. For instance, you have a beauty salon and you may run a CPC ad on Facebook or Instagram to advertise a new discount offer. You need to pay only when someone clicks on your ad, you don’t owe anything if they scroll down.
What are the types of CPC?
There are two primary formulas:
Flat rate/Formula based: When search engines or site publishers use this formula they have already set an amount in their mind to charge the advertiser for their CPC campaign. This depends on how often other websites advertise with particular keywords used in CPC ad, or going to rate for similar advertisements for other platforms. There is also a formula to calculate the flat rate. The formula is:
Flat rate=Cost per impression/percentage click-through ratio(%CTR)
Bid based: This method is used by many platforms like Google. In bid-based advertising, you compete with other advertisers to bid for a targeted keyword and the amount you are willing to pay for every click on your ad. This method works when the advertiser sets the duration for a campaign and the maximum amount they want to spend per click. The latter figure is their bid.
Clicks Per Search
Click per search shows the average number of clicks for all searchers. It is basically a correlation between clicks metrics and search volume of the keyword.
Google Search operators
Google search operators are some special characters that are added to search queries to get more specific information related to that query. They are categorized into 3 parts as follows:
- Punctuation based operators: It is useful to include the punctuation operators in the search query. We can use the following operators to find the exact key phrase:
1. Hyphen (-): It is used to exclude a phrase or term. We can take the example of apples. Apple is a fruit and a brand at the same time. We can search for an apple store and also for Apple phones or jobs at Apple. We can differentiate by using hyphen like:
Apple-fruit store
Apple-phone store
2. Asterisk (*): This operator works as a wildcard and is used to match any word or phrase.
For example: Steve*apple
3. Round braces (): It helps to group multiple terms or search and helps to execute the query in the proper way.
Example:- (Tattoo and hair treatment) salon
4. Dollar symbol $: It is used for prices.
- Boolean search operators: Following operators come under the category of boolean search operators:
1. OR: If you search for terms like AA or BB or both, the pipe operator can be used in place of OR.
For example, posts or vacancies. We can write this query like this posts | vacancies.
2. AND: It is useful when we want to pair some searches. For example, search terms like AA and BB will give you results related to both.
- Advanced search operators: Advanced search operators also known as google search commands. These are terms or commands that are added to a search query that can fundamentally change what you are looking for and may require additional parameters or URLs to be added to the query. Following are the operators or commands:
- Define
- Cache
- Filetype
- Site
- Related
- intitle
- Allintitle
- inurl
- allinurl
- Intext
- allintext
- AROUND(X)

What are negative SEO keywords?
Negative keywords prevent your ads from matching to irrelevant search queries. These keywords let you exclude search terms from your campaigns, letting you focus on the keywords that matter to your customers.
For example, if you are selling furniture and you know that several people will search for free furniture on Google and you don’t want your content to be shown to people looking for free furniture, Then you can add “free” as a negative keyword. This will help Google to understand that your content should not be shown for any searches looking for free furniture.
